Once upon a time...
The great-grandmother of the Blaes brothers settled in Zaandam in 1920 as an economic refugee from Düsseldorf. Germany was completely in ruins after the 1st World War and the Zaan region offered perspective. From 1955 the family was better known as “de Blaesen van de Stationsstraat” with grandfather Egon Blaes at the helm, who made a major contribution to the clothing industry, unique in the Zaan region. A few generations later, the Blaes brothers combined their love for beer and their German roots with Blaes Bier.
Elian Blaes
The brewer
In January 2019, Elian Blaes from Zaandam bought a small brew kettle to brew beers in his kitchen. As a former chef, he was always looking for flavors and challenges. For example, he gave cooking workshops; Cooking with beer. In addition to the interest in the brewing process, the lack of German classic beers on the Dutch shelves was also a motivation. He wanted to brew beers that he and his brother Ralph wanted to drink themselves.
